FRENCH PRESS
The French Press is a classic, no-fuss brewing method that delivers a rich, full-bodied cup of coffee. Unlike pour-over methods, it uses full immersion brewing, resulting in a thicker, more textured coffee with natural oils intact. It’s a simple and rewarding way to enjoy specialty coffee without the need for complex equipment.
What You’ll Need:
- French Press Brewer
- Fresh SZNS Coffee
- Scale & Timer (optional, but great for consistency)
- Gooseneck or Slow-Pour Kettle
Preparation:
- Heat Your Water: Bring water to 198–205°F, then let it settle for a few seconds.
-
Grind Your Coffee: Use 30g of coarse-ground coffee for 380g of water.
The grind should be chunky, like sea salt to prevent excessive sediment. - Preheat Your French Press: Rinse the French Press with hot water to maintain temperature and remove any residue.
-
Add Coffee & Tare the Scale: Pour the ground coffee into the French Press.
Set it on your scale and zero it out.
Brew Process:
1. The Bloom (First Pour): Pour 95g of hot water evenly over the grounds.
Let it sit for 45 seconds—this allows the coffee to release gases and enhances flavor.
2. Main Pour & Steep: Pour the remaining water, bringing the total to 380g.
Place the lid on, but don’t press down yet. Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.
3. Plunge & Serve: Slowly press down the plunger, applying gentle pressure.
Pour immediately to enjoy at peak flavor.
Roasters Tip: Don’t skip the bloom! That first 45-second wait ensures better extraction. If your coffee tastes too gritty, your grind might be too fine—adjust to a coarser setting. Now, sit back and savor the smooth, bold flavors of a perfectly brewed French Press.
